Killington Fire Department proposes new SEVEN MILLION dollar firehouse

On Tuesday at 10:00 am there was a special select board meeting with the agenda item "Review of Fire Department Facilities and renovation recommendation". Why this was a special meeting and not part of a regularly scheduled 7:00 pm select board meeting is curious. The fire department has been working on this proposal literally for years. Usually when a special select board meeting is initiated it is because a time sensitive issue needing an immediate decision is on the agenda.
I, for one, would have liked to have gone to this meeting and was hoping to go to the 10:00 am meeting but got tied up in Rutland on business and couldn't make it. I'm sure a lot of other people in town would have liked a more convenient time as well, not when they're working.
This is of interest because of the enormity of the of the potential outlay for a new or renovated facility. I heard second hand the fire department has budgeted seven million, yes SEVEN MILLION Dollars for this facility. You would think the public might be interested.
More to come as I get more info.
